Plans for socially distanced cricket in England

2020 Guidance

General

 1.      Do not turn up to the game with any symptoms related to Covid. In line with current UK Government guidance, if an individual is symptomatic and/or living in a household with a possible Covid-19 infection, they should remain at home and follow the guidance. In addition, any participants who have been asked to isolate by NHS Test and Trace must not participate or attend a match. Players should follow UK guidance on shielding and protecting people who are deemed vulnerable.

2.      Players must adhere strictly to the signage (or other communication) established by the host club. All clubs would have had to follow guidance to ensure that facilities are compliant with current UK legislation and would have carried out appropriate risk assessments in order to be able to host a match.

3.      Players should arrive at the venue no more than 60 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, adhere to social distancing and avoid congregating before activity begins.

4.      Turn up to the game changed and ready to play.

5.      Bring your own hand sanitizer. (This will be provided by the RCC)

6.      Players should bring their own drink and teas; water bottles must not be shared.

7.      Access to the pavilion is for the use of the toilets only.

On the field of play

8.      Players should, where possible, avoid sharing any personal cricket equipment. (It is advised that personal cricket equipment is cleaned before and after use with an antiviral spray or wipe; if equipment is shared, strict hand hygiene must be adhered to before and after use and any shared equipment must be cleaned before further use by anyone else.)

9.      When not actively participating, players should sit on the ground or bring their own fold up chair, set up to allow for a strict 1-metre physical distancing (as a minimum).

10.  All participants are reminded to cover their mouth and nose when clearing airways with a disposable tissue or sneeze into the crook of their elbow. Spitting and nose clearing is strictly forbidden.

11.  In practicing, bowlers need to use their own ball and can practice with the wicketkeeper as long as he/she has gloves on.

12.  Batters can hit balls with their own bat but must not pick the ball up and throw it back to the bowler

13.  There should be no handshakes, high fives or other contact.

14.  In the event of bad weather, you must return to your car.

15.  Maintain social distancing at all times, wicket keepers must remain one meter or more from the batsman, slips must remain one meter or more apart.

16.  No sweat or saliva to be applied to the ball.

17.  Sanitize your hands before, during and after the game. There will be a break every 20 minutes/6 overs for sanitizing hands and the cricket ball. It is the responsibility of the fielding captain to sanitize the ball.

18.  There will be a line two meters either side of the wicket - the non-striking batsman/woman must run outside this to maintain social distancing from the striker running down the wicket. Any conferencing between batters must observe the one-meter distancing rule.

19.  Social distancing must be maintained at all times (e.g. at the fall of a wicket) if tactical discussions are taking place.

20.  Players are encouraged to sanitize their hands straight after any handling of the ball with their own pocket hand sanitizer

21.  After each delivery the ball must be returned directly to the bowler, do not throw it from one player to another.

22.  Sanitize bats after each innings and wicket keepers to sanitize gloves as often as possible.

23.  The umpire is to have no contact with the ball. The ball to be left at the base of the stumps at the end of each over. The umpire is the only person allowed to replace the bails if dislodged.
